Armenia’s Alina Charaeva, who beat world number one Elena Rybakina at the China Open earlier this month, headlines a field of rising stars at the Wrexham Open, the UK’s largest indoor tennis event, which returns this week.
The 24-year-old also beat 2024 Wrexham Open winner Sonay Kartal at the China Open.
Xu will not defend her titles
The home crowd in Wrexham saw a Welsh winner in both the singles and doubles events in 2025, when Mimi Xu claimed both titles, partnering Ella McDonald in the doubles.
Xu will not defend her titles. She has opted to compete at the W75 Saguenay tournament in Canada instead.
Who is competing
Several British players are seeking success in Wrexham this year, including Alicia Dudeney, Hannah Klugman and Junior Nationals champion Daniella Britton.
The international contingent includes Greet Minnen and former top 50 players Lucia Bronzetti, Linda Fruhvirtova, Rebecca Sramkova and Claral Burel.
The W100 ITF World Tennis Tour event runs from 18-25 October. It is set to be the UK’s biggest women’s tournament outside the grass-court season this year.
